2009 Benchmarking
The 2009 Environmental Indicators survey was even more successful with 68% more lines reporting than in 2008. This now covers over 75% of the industry output in Europe.
The survey in 2009 was focussed around benchmarking and fully analysed and anonymised data was returned to all participants in September 2009, together with an exclusive webinar only for survey participants to assist in benchmarking.
Because of differences in reporting and the major increase in participating lines, comparisons with the previous year's data is not always easy, but on a like-for-like basis:
- Average gas use decreased by 6%
- Average electricity use remained static
- Average water usage decreased by 14%
The data collection in 2009 also allowed some indicators which were previously unfeasible to be recorded, for example:
- Average lost time injury frequency (LTIF) rate 8.9 incidents per million man-days
- Average fugitive emissions of VOCs 3.8%
- Average VOC abatement efficiency 99.4%
